China’s wheat imports rise 14% on month in August, corn falls 45%
1,927views 2015-09-24 11:45China’s wheat imports rose 14% month on month in August, resuming an upward trend after having fallen on the month in July, data released Tuesday by the General Administration of Customs showed.
China imported 343,392 mt of wheat in August, compared with 301,297 mt in July, the data showed. The month-on-month rise was in contrast to a near 30% drop in imports seen for July.
Over the first eight months, China imported 2.04 million mt of wheat.
Australia remained the largest supply source in August, at 155,694 mt, although this was down from 224,200 mt in the previous month.
The US was the second-largest supplier, with volumes of 122,472 mt and up sharply from just 3,255 mt in July.
Canada slipped to third place even as volumes were slightly higher at 55,161 mt compared with 53,340 mt in the previous month.
China’s corn imports fell by 45% month on month to 607,582 mt in the first monthly drop since since March.
It had reached a year-to-date high of 1.108 million mt in July.
The bulk of imports came from Ukraine at 445,219 mt while the US was second at 151,979 mt.
Barley imports also fell 39% month on month to 778,166 mt in August, from 1.283 million mt in July, with Australia and France being the dominant supply sources.
Sorghum imports fell to 548,900 mt in August, from 1.114 million mt in July, with all supply seen originating from the US and Australia.
