  • Vietnam’s Vinacomin to produce less coal in Aug following heavy rains

    2,211views 2015-08-12 11:28

Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Ltd, or Vinacomin, expects to produce 2.2 million mt of coal in August, down 15.4% year on year and month on month, the company said Monday.

The lower production is attributed to the extreme bad weather in Quang Ninh province recently.

Heavy rains, the heaviest in 40 years, in the country’s key coal production area forced Vinacomin to halt production and sales in Quang Ninh over July 26-August 3.

Vinacomin said it was trying to restore normal production in the province and some units had already resumed operations.
It aimed to finish repairing most rail lines and roads connecting coal mines and port this week, Vinacomin said.

Vinacomin’s general director Dang Thanh Hai has also directed relevant departments in the company to look at setting up coal storage systems in the central and southern regions to avoid any delivery disruption in the future, the company added.

In the first seven months, Vinacomin produced 23.6 million mt of coal, up 6.8% from the same period last year.
