Thermal coal imports up 23% in April-June at India’s state-run ports
1,784views 2015-07-08 11:58India’s 12 major government-owned ports handled 24.08 million mt of imported thermal coal in the April-June period, up 22.73% from the same period a year ago, according to Indian Ports Association data released Tuesday.
Coking coal imports in the first quarter of the current fiscal year 2015-16 were up marginally by 0.86% to 8.17 million mt from 8.10 million mt a year ago, the data showed.
Paradip port on the east coast handled the highest volume of thermal coal imports during April-June at 7.6 million mt, up 13% from 6.7 million mt a year ago. Paradip also received the highest coking coal shipments in the three-month period under review at 2.3 million mt compared to 1.8 million mt in the same period last year, representing an increase of 27.7%.
The 12 ports are Kolkata, Paradip, Visakhapatnam, Kamarajar (Ennore), Chennai, VO Chidambaranar (Tuticorin), Cochin, New Mangalore, Mormugao, Mumbai, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) and Kandla.
